1. Introduction of Byodoin Temple

Byodo-in Temple is designated as one of the group of 17 UNESCO sites in Kyoto, and was founded in 1052 by a powerful aristocrat.

That year marked 2,000 years since the passing of the Buddha, and it was said to be the beginning of an age of decadence. People believed that the teaching of Buddhism would no longer be popular.

Therefore, this temple was built to realize the dream of the founder - to be reborn into the Buddhists’ Pure Land, which is believed to look like Byodoin Temple, after death.
