1. Introduction of Ginkaku-ji Temple

Ginkaku-ji Temple, or Higashiyama Jisyo-ji is a UNESCO site and ‘Ginkaku’ literally means “Silver Pavilion”.

It was originally built as a villa for former Shogun (shogun: the leader of the Samurai class) in the 15th century. However, he passed away 7 years after he started the construction of the villa. Shortly after his death it was completed and was turned into a Buddhist temple, according to his will.

The beautiful combination of the structure and the garden is said to be one of the finest examples of the Japanese aesthetic.
