Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine was founded in 711 and is the main shrine of about 3,000 Inari shrines in entire Japan.
In addition to walking through the numerous red Torii gates, you can do a casual walking of approximately 2 hours seeing many worshipping stones and smaller shrines located along the stone steps leading to the top of Mt. Inariyama.
The mountain itself is one of the objects of worship at this Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine and the elevation is 764 feet / 233 meters above sea level. The main shrine building is located at the foot of Mt. Inariyama.
