The actual order of visits can be different from the one written below.
Tojiin Temple
Flourished as a family temple of 14th-century Shoguns (Shoguns were de-fact rulers of Japan), Tojiin Temple has beautiful pond gardens.
You can stroll around the ponds, appreciating changing views of the gardens. The rustic tea house located in the garden shows an example of the Japanese-style aesthetic sense.
Ryoan-ji Temple
The rock garden of Ryoanji Temple became famous worldwide after the British Queen Elizabeth’s visit in 1975.
There used to be a country house of a powerful clan, it was acquired by a samurai in 1450 and converted into a Zen training temple - it is now a UNESCO site.
This temple's rectangular Zen Garden has 15 rocks placed on white gravels. Some interpretations of the garden might evoke your imagination.
Ninna-ji Temple
Ninna-ji temple, another UNESCO site, was founded in 888. It is well known for its long history and magnificent temple building structures such as the Five-storied pagoda and Nio-mon gate.
The head priests of this temple were from the Imperial family members up until the mid-19th century.
Ninna-ji temple is also noted for its beautiful Omuro-sakura, or Omuro cherry trees. They are usually in season in mid-April, a couple of weeks later than the other parts of Kyoto city.
Taizoin Temple
Taizoin-Temple has been part of Myoshin-ji Temple since the 16th century.
Taizo-in Temple has two amazing gardens: one is the 16th-century dry landscape garden and the other is the 20th-century strolling style garden. The16th-century dry landscape garden features the natural landscape composed of evergreen trees, rocks, pebbles, and sand. In the 20th-century strolling style garden, magnificent weeping cherry trees, Japanese wisterias and azalea trees are popular.
