1. Introduction of Nijo Castle
Nijo Castle was built in 1603 as the official Kyoto residence of the 1st Tokugawa Shogun, Ieyasu Tokugawa.
In 1867, the Tokugawa military government declared the return of the sovereign power to the Emperor at Nijo Castle. Tokugawa’s rule lasted for about 270 years, from the early 17th to the middle of the 19th century.
You can see the samurai housing style architecture by visiting this relic of the Shogun. It is also designated as a UNESCO site.
