1. Introduction of Ninna-ji Temple

Ninna-ji temple, another UNESCO site, was founded in 888. It is well known for its long history and magnificent temple building structures such as the Five-storied pagoda and Nio-mon gate.

The head priests of this temple were from the Imperial family members up until the mid-19th century.

Ninna-ji temple is also noted for its beautiful Omuro-sakura, or Omuro cherry trees. They are usually in season at the beginning of April, a couple of weeks later than the other parts of Kyoto city.
