1. Introduction of Sanjusangen-do Temple

"Sanjusangen-do" means the "Hall with thirty-three spaces between the pillars", as "Sanju-san" means "thirty-three" in Japanese.

"Sanjusangen-do" was built inside the premises of an Imperial villa as a prayer hall in the 12th century; "do" here is pronounced "dou" in Japanese to mean "hall". This villa no longer exists, however, Sanjusangen-do was reconstructed in the later century.

Have you ever heard of "Kannon", one of the most popular Buddhist deities in Japan?

You can see around 1,000 impressive Kannon statues inside the Sanjusangen-do building. Photography inside is forbidden so that I do not have the photos of the inside to show you.

Every time I go there, I am overwhelmed by numbers and their beautiful look - they have such peaceful faces and serene atmosphere...
