1. Introduction of Shisen-do

Shisen-do was built in the 17th century as a hermitage of Jozan Ishikawa : he was a samurai and retainer of Ieyasu Tokugawa (the first shogun of the Tokugawa Shogunate). Jozan was also known as a scholar of Chinese classics as well as a landscape architect.

Shisen-do’s gardens are well known for its exquisite and unique taste. Azaleas, wisterias, maples and many other kinds of flowers and plants can be appreciated in the gardens.
